Porfirio G. Liwanag, head librarian of the Asian Center, retired last September 6 after 39+ years of service to the University of the Philippines Diliman.

“Sir Per,” as he is commonly known, received his MA in Library Science at the Institute of Library Science, University of the Philippines Diliman. He started his career at the University Main Library in 1972 and transferred to the Philippine Center for Advanced Studies (PCAS), which incorporated what is now the Asian Center, in 1979.  

A small gathering was held in Mr. Liwanag’s honor last 13 September 2013. The staff and faculty of the Asian Center, both old and new, praised his dedication to his work and shared their many fond memories with and of Mr. Liwanag, who also expressed his appreciation and gratitude for support and friendship.

He will be succeeded by Ms. Eustaquia Landa as the new head librarian of the UP Asian Center.
