Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.
"The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver

Asian Center staff and faculty took part in the General Assembly of the Philippine Association for China Studies (PACS) last Saturday, 28 February 2015, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at La Vista Subdivision, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. During the General Assembly, members of PACS gave updates on individual and institutional activities over the past year, including ongoing research projects, and conferences on Philippines-China relations.

Professor Aileen Baviera is a board member while Dr. Tina Clemente serves as secretary. Mr. Chito Sta. Romana, who currently lectures on Chinese politics and governance at the Asian Center, is President. Joining them as part of the Asian Center contingent were Dr. Eduardo Gonzalez, dean; Dr. Marina Durano, Assistant Professor; Mr. Janus Isaac Nolasco, University Researcher; and two students,  Ivy Ganadillo and Ma. Also in attendance were Dr. Elizabeth Urgel, former University Researcher and now faculty of the University of Asia and the Pacific; Prof. Aurora Roxas-Lim, former dean; and Dr. Aurora de Dios, alumna, host of the Assembly, and faculty member of Miriam College.

The Philippine Association for China Studies seeks to conduct studies on China, Philippines-China relations and ethnic Chinese in the Philippines. For this end, PACS organizes research projects, holds conferences, and produces various publications. Recently, PACS launched several initiatives to promote a Philippines-China dialogue in light of the territorial and maritime disputes between the two countries.

The Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
