Professor Eduardo Gonzalez, Dean of the Asian Center, participated in the 6th Korean Studies Association (KoSASA) Biennial Conference from 23 to 25 September at the University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During the Dean’s Forum, he presented “The Outlook for Korean Studies Education in the Philippines: Smooth Sailing Sisyphean Effort.” The conference is sponsored by the Korea Research Institute at the University of New South Wales.

Dean Gonzalez also joined a workshop on the “Research Project on Leadership and Management Development in Asian Countries (Part 2)” by the National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies (GRIPS) from 29 September to 1 October in Tokyo, Japan. The workshop brought together academic and government delegates from several Asian countries who presented case studies on how the public sectors in Asia, both at the national and local levels, can strengthen its capacity to make innovative policy solutions.

Prof. Gonzalez has an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches courses on Development Theories (PS 222), Research Methods (PS 299/399), Political Economy of Institutions (PS 229), Governance & Institutions (PS 298), among others. His research interests include policy research and development, public and corporate governance, institutional analysis, regional planning, and political economy. 

The Asian Center offers MA degrees in Asian and in Philippine Studies. The Asian Studies program offers specializations in Northeast Asian Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, South Asian Studies, or West Asian Studies. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allow students to specialize on Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies.
