Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.
"The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver

The UP Asian Center will be holding a seminar-workshop, Professional and Business English: Email Etiquette and Workplace Communication Standards, on 13 and 14 May 2026, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, PST (GMT+8), at the Seminar Room, UP Asian Center. The event is exclusively for the Asian Center Staff.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

In today’s academic and administrative landscape, effective communication plays a critical role in ensuring efficiency, professionalism, and collaboration within the workplace. At the UP Asian Center, written communication, particularly through email, serves as a primary channel for coordination, documentation, and decision-making. However, inconsistencies in tone, structure, and adherence to communication standards may lead to misunderstandings, delays, and reduced organizational effectiveness.

This seminar aims to enhance the professional communication skills of staff by focusing on the principles and practices of Business English, with particular emphasis on email etiquette and workplace communication standards. It will provide participants with practical guidelines on crafting clear, concise, and professional emails, as well as strategies for maintaining appropriate tone, clarity, and audience awareness in various workplace contexts.

Specifically, the activity aims to: (1) develop participants’ awareness of standard email etiquette and professional writing conventions; (2) improve clarity, coherence, and tone in workplace email communication; (3) introduce best practices in structuring formal and semi-formal correspondence; (4) strengthen participants’ ability to communicate effectively across different workplace scenarios; and (5) promote consistency and professionalism in institutional communication practices.
