Religion and the Environment: A Roundtable | 14 November 2015

The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman will be hosting a roundtable on Religion and the Environment on 14 November 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the ASEAN Hall, Hall of Wisdom, GT-Toyota Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman. The roundtable, as part of the month-long celebration of the Asian Center’s 60th anniversary, is free and open to the public.

“Religion and the Environment: A Roundtable” aims to promote a deeper understanding of nature and the physical environment from the perspective of various faith or religious traditions such as Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, and Christianity. It examines the views of various religious traditions on environmental concerns, and probes if organizations and faith-based groups have a role to play in the search for solutions to environmental crises.

The roundtable features the following resource persons: Dean Julkipli M. Wadi of the UP Institute of Islamic Studies; Rev. Fr. Dexter Toledo, OFM, the Provincial Secretary of the Franciscans; Mr. Gurdial Singh of the Khalsa Diwan Sikh Temple; Venerable Miaoxin of the Mabuhay Buddhist temple; and Rey Peñalosa of the Tzu Chi Foundation.

The Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
