Seventy years after the Philippines and Japan normalized diplomatic relations, scholars, diplomats, military officials, and civil society leaders gathered at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium in UP Diliman on 19 June 2026 for a day-long symposium on the two countries' partnership.

The UP Asian Center is now accepting abstract submissions for Japanese Studies in the Philippines: The 9th Japanese Studies Research Development Competition. Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in Philippine Universities may submit any topic related to Japanese Studies (except topics that focus solely on natural sciences, medical sciences, and engineering). The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2026, 5:00 PM, PHT.

The UP Asian Center, in partnership with VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam, will hold the online forum "Philippines-Vietnam: Neighbors in Dialogue" on 17 July 2026, 2:00 PM, Manila Time (1:00 PM, Hanoi Time), online via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public, but signing up for a (free) Zoom account is required.
